By : Alina Simon

The Pas-led Kelantan Government's new Exco members, led by Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat, was given a fresh injection of three new faces, including the first woman member ever to be appointed.
Kijang assemblywoman and former Senator Wan Ubaidah Omar, who won the seat uncontested, will head the women and family development, and health committee. The 52-year old mother of seven who was widowed following the death of her husband in 2001, said her own experience would help give her an insight into helping these group. The other two new faces are Dr Mohd Fadhli Hassan (Temangan) and Che Abdullah Mat Nawi (Wakaf Baru). Deputy menteri besar Datuk Ahmad Yaacob made the announcement after the Exco held their first meeting at Kota Darulnaim today. The portfolios are as follows:1. Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat: Menteri Besar and Land, forestry and natural resources.
2. Datuk Ahmad Yaacob: Deputy Menteri Besar and public administration, land and regional development committee/3. Datuk Husam Musa: Economic Planning, finance and welfare committee4. Datuk Anuar Tan Abdullah: Entrepreneurship, commerce and national unity5. Mohd Amar Abdullah: Islamic development, education and dakwah.6. Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan: Local government, tourism, culture and tourism.7. Major (R) Md Anizam Abd Rahman: Housing, public works, utility and environment.8. Che Abdullah Mat Nawi: Agriculture, rural industry and biotechnology.11. Wan Ubaidah Omar: Women development, family and health.Meanwhile, Nik Aziz wants the welfare programmes in the five states controlled by the party and its Alternative Front (BA) partners to be streamlined following the opposition’s victory in retaining Kelantan and capturing Penang, Perak, Selangor and Kedah. He said a body has to be set up to co-ordinate these programmes soon as the coalition must work hard to prove its sincerity in fulfilling promises in the campaign manifesto for the creation of a welfare state. He suggested that planning and coordination be made through the BA's legislative council. “I want to make sure that our promises do not become empty rhetoric and I see that there is some weakness in the programme itself. It will be better if we co-ordinate our efforts with our BA partners so that the implementation will run smoothly," he said after chairing the first Exco meeting here today.Nik Aziz said he would write to Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang to suggest the creation of a centralised coordinating body to oversee planning and implementation of these programmes in the five states. On the New Economic Policy, Nik Aziz said it should be retained with changes made to its implementation, pointing out that the programme helped Malays while flaws were in the implementation."The NEP, as I see it, is a good policy in principle but its goodness has been tarnished by poor handling and implementation by the wrong kind of people. In Islam, anything that is completely bad must be discarded but if it is still good, we will retain it but with changes to suit our needs," he said.
